Looks yummy! Thank you for sharing that Manjula!
Mam, add garlic with ginger, good flavor and health, and add mustard seed while seasoning, gives spicy and flavor.
Hi. Inspiring recipe! Will you mix the rice with the dhal soup or do you eat it on the side?

I am a 42 year old divorced Indian man and was tired of eating out all the time!! I happened on your youtube site and made the Moong Spinach Dahl with a pressure cooker and I love it!!! I can cook thanks to you!!! I've made it 3 times already and have been tweaking it to my taste! (i added a few serrano peppers)!! Thank you so much Manjula and I am going to try and make more of your dishes!!!! you rock!!!
Thank you Manjula ! For next time… tonight, I am making it with half mung dal and half red lentils; peas, yellow string beans, cauliflower, and fresh from the garden, peas. Putting it in a vagar of ghee, ginger, garlic, onion, cumin, black mustardseed, and hing. But next time, I will try the mung dal with spinach. Take care. You are doing wonderful work, and also helping us bachelors to feed ourselves well. Namaste !
will take 1 to 1-1/2 hour
Love your site Manjula. Thank you for all your great recipes. Do you know how long for the stove top method, approximately ? I don't have (scared of) a pressure cooker. Thanks.
Thanks for your quick reply. Another question, why didnt you add onion tomato in your tadka ?
I think after one whistle lower the heat and cook for another 4 minutes.
I dont have this type of pressure cooker. I have our regular indian pressure cooker with whistle. How should i cook this with whistle pressure cooker ?

Thank you, Manjula Aunty! I made this for dinner tonight and it was very tasty. In fact, my husband and I love all of your recipes. You have such a warm, kind way of teaching 🙂 Thank you!
thankyou Auntyji for all your recipies. with your step by step guide you even make a complicated dish look easy. thankyou once again.
This is an excellent recipe and comes out very well. However whenever I cook it in the cooker, it gets burnt at the bottom (irrespective of the water quantity). I wish to know why this happens and what should I do.
hey, there is no need to boil once we add garam masala?
@alexsandra9000 if you dont have a pressure cooker you can boil it in a saucepan with water…it will take longer and dals may froth so keep a watch. Soaking the dals for a few hours before help speed it up. pressure cooking is a quick and energy saving way to cook dals, rice or firm veggies but it can be done in a saucepan too.
Thank you for your video! I just became interested in cooking Indian food, and all of the ingredients and methods are so foreign to me I was getting overwhelmed. Your simple step-by-step video gives me the confidence to start learning more!
One comment – I do not have a pressure cooker, so in future recipies, please mention an alternative method for the pressure cooker step. Thanks!
