I grew up Seventh-day Adventist. Still am. I disagree when they say they are the only ones but I read the bible and follow God. Not a church.

It’s 100% a cult, it was founded off a singular event that also spawned another cult (JW’s) though and I know this because I know a few SDA’s (actually very nice people and the only part they don’t follow completely is the doomsday bit) and they don’t necessarily preach to their congregations to be vegetarian they just have a whole bunch of dietary restrictions that mean that being a vegetarian or vegan is just easier for most people, I imagine like being vegan or vegetarian could also be easier for strict kosher Jews.
your relationship to the religious upbringing you had is absolutely valid and as someone who grew up pentecostal i can empathize. but it is not fair to say “religion is a cult” and generalize religion as a whole like that. i recommend learning about religions outside of christianity or even learn about progressive sects of christianity. religion is certainly not for everyone but it can be a beautiful thing to some people and it is not always a cult or a high control group.

I grew up attending an Anglo Saxon Christian based church and was sent to it for 10 years it was very on the boundary of white supremacy and they said that Jesus was a Jew and gotta love Jesus but then they also preached that only Anglo Saxon decent was truly pure 🙂

My aunt and her husband and children are still SDA. They live out in the sticks, live usually raw vegan, refuse to get vaccines and are constantly riddled with health complaints – just to please the cult basically.

SDA's are Bible Christians. You mentioned that we observe Ellen Whites writings and we do but you failed to mention that we believe the Holy Bible is the standard. We observe the Bible first and foremost. Also we don't believe that "bad people burn for a thousand or ten thousand years". That is nonsense. We are Protestant Christians. True, we are not aligned with "traditional historic Christianity". We don't follow tradition. The Bible is our standard. Not tradition.

there are followers of SDA that do make the move to go off grid and grow their own food and prep for the end of the world because they teach that the end of the world will come within our lifetime. however, most of us aren’t doomsday preppers because you’re also taught to live your life normally regardless of believing the end of world is going to come soon. it’s taught that it’s a good thing when Jesus returns, not an awful scary thing that we need to make bunkers for! many other Christian denominations believe that Jesus will return as well, they just don’t think it will be as soon as SDA. but the “doomsday prepper” is very few members honestly.
also, “cult” is a strong word to use to describe it… at that rate then every religion is a cult.
I've been watching you for a long time and have respected what you do. SDA is far from being a cult..it is the only church..CHURCH…that follows all the teachings of the Bible…it is the ONLY true PROTESTANT church..meaning to PROTEST the CATHOLIC CHURCH which it's leaders teach that the Catholic leaders are ABOVE the BIBLE and ABOVE GOD HIMSELF. So would you say that 'church' is a cult? Probably not because the world highly respects this entity even though it's well known for pedophilia. I just never realized you were so shallow as to malign the SDA church as you have..maybe you had a bad experience but that doesn't give you the right to assign this church as a cult..a CULT? But then again the Bible says that ppl like you would do and say such evil. By the way it's not taught that ppl will burn for thousands of years…the BIBLE says that sin and sinners will be destroyed by fire until all is stubble which is not very long at all..probably not more than 24hrs. I grew up sda too.. But not that American version😂. I think it's OK tho and not that bad. I also think it's healthy to think we will die one day and could use with living off grid right now with the state of the world 😂😂😂. All in all I had some positive influence but no longer interested in the religion. 😊
