  1. Before this video I watched a post where you pondered what you wanted to do with your social media channel. And then you posted “something that made you cry over memorial day.” If there was ever an answer to your question it was this experience. I was brought to tears because of its poignancy. That, sir is why we need you to do what you do. Thank you for being you.

  2. Billy, I just discovered you a month or so ago. I served in the USAF for 23.5 years and I can identify with everyone one of these guys you introduced us to. I cannot thank you and them enough.

  3. Aloha. As a vet, thank you! Sorry for your loss. My friends and I went to jazz fest a few times. We’d go to a buddy’s house in Covington afterwards. He gave us a list, we’d buy the ingredients, including 2 40lb. Bags of crawfish. Sometimes there was someone selling fresh shrimp or blue crabs along the side of the road, we’d buy those too. There was usually about ten of us give or take, people dropping in and out. Most of us were from Hawaii, so it was a real treat.

  4. To those who did not make it home Thank you for your breavery, your sacifice for our Country. God Bkess you and keep you all — Thank you for your Service even though it is Memorial Day you lost brothers this is why I bless you – To the families Thank you for giving of your loved one. Thanks be to God you made it home. Thank you Chef for sharing this!

  5. Billy thank you for this reminder to us all that we have this national holiday for reasons other than BBQ. Memorial Day is a tribute honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while protecting our freedoms. TY for doing just that

  6. I never served but over the decades I've known a lot of vets that I strongly suspect experience Memorial Day 365 days out of every single year.
The only thing I can think of that might help is to be a good neighbor.
    I don't have any solutions.
    Damn…

  7. It’s a hard holiday to enjoy! Those that are memorialized are the reason for our freedoms. Surely not a free gift but it is definitely a gift that not everyone has. Gentlemen, thank you for your service. Leave out the salt while cleaning the crawfish next time. Crawfish die in salt water because they’re fresh water animals. They look great though!

  8. So very touching. I am a history buff and had the opportunity to take down the stories of many veterans of WWII and Korea. Many of these men and women had never talked about their experiences but there were several of us who spent the time, often in nursing homes, just listening and later getting permission to record these stories.
I know there is a hesitancy to talk. Many of the experiences are still raw. Still, these are stories that are invaluable especially to the younger generations so they realize the sacrifices made for them and to inspire them if the time comes for them to make sacrifices.
"The Greatest Generation," including my Mother, a Navy nurse from WWII, are gone. Vietnam era service members are leaving us. There are "Cold Warriors" like myself and my friends who risked their lives and lost their lives to prevent WWII, and of course now, the veterans of Iraq (1st & 2nd) Afghanistan and current deployments who have stories.
You don't need to broadcast them, but in whatever way you feel you're able, please record your stories and recollections. They are invaluable history lessons that serve as evidence of what happened so future generations can learn the truth and not be bamboozled by "alternate facts" and historical revisionism. If our children are to learn from us – what we did right and where we made mistakes, they need this information and history.
Videos like this one help so much. Thank you for sharing.

  9. What a moving tribute to our veterans and all military families who do so much for our country. Thank you for taking me along. Words alone cannot express the depth of felling evoked by their service and sacrifice.

  10. This is beautiful, but who’s chopping the onions 😢

Edit: God bless the brave men and women who fought for our freedom and who paid the ultimate sacrifice
